ABOUT THE ARTIST & SCULPTURES | David Lipson assembles robot sculptures from varying materials, old and new. Inspired by Lipson’s love of Tin Toy Robots, Sci-Fi movies and retro design, his creations use a combination of items from the street, thrift and retail stores, construction sites, garbage dumps, recycle shops, flea markets, and hardware stores. David’s preferred materials are stainless steel, metal, glass, and Bakelite, which he drills, cuts, sands, and sometimes hammers when preparing the components for Robot assemblage. Assembly is achieved with nuts and bolts. There is no welding. The results are one-of-a-kind robots, with each unique piece not only named by the artist, but also include his signature nameplate. In addition to building robots, Lipson is a producer of animation for film and television. His past credits include The Venture Bros (Cartoon Network), School House Rock (Disney), TV Funhouse on Saturday Night Live (NBC), The Howard Stern Show (CBS), Lizzie McGuire (Disney), and Word World (PBS). Prior to working in animation, Lipson studied oil painting at the Art Students League, and the National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts in New York City. He went to college at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. These robots are not built as toys and are for artistic display only. They are not to be given to small children, and should be handled with care. Any lamps, clocks or radios used are often functional, but none of the meters are operational. |
